Prior to joining Hofland & Tomsheck, Mr. Carr served for over two decades as an Assistant Federal Public Defender. During his tenure, he honed his skills across all facets of federal criminal defense, including pretrial proceedings under the Bail Reform Act, complex trials, sentencing hearings, and appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Since transitioning to private practice, Mr. Carr has broadened his expertise to include state court matters, where he has successfully represented clients in trial proceedings and appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court and the Nevada Court of Appeals. In addition to his work in criminal law, Mr. Carr also handles family and civil law cases, offering comprehensive legal services to his clients.
Mr. Carr's appellate work is particularly distinguished. He has argued before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in over 160 cases, achieving significant victories, including published reversals in approximately 20 cases. Notable examples of his appellate successes include landmark decisions such as United States v. Weatherspoon, 410 F.3d 1142 (9th Cir. 2013), and United States v. Brown, 785 F.3d 1337 (9th Cir. 2015). His extensive experience and deep understanding of appellate procedures make him a formidable advocate in post-conviction and appellate matters.
Beyond his litigation practice, Mr. Carr is dedicated to the academic side of law, regularly engaging in continuing legal education and training for his peers. His commitment to advancing legal knowledge and practice standards is evident through his numerous contributions to legal seminars and workshops.
